Do I have a ventilation problem?
Why is poor ventilation becoming more of a problem?
In an effort to maximise energy efficiency, many people have taken to upgrading their homes and business premises to minimise draughts and maximise heat retention. The problem is, all these new windows, doors and insulation often come at the expense of preserving good air flow.
During the cooler months of the year when staying cosy is our top priority, good ventilation is often neglected, and condensation becomes more apparent. Condensation is usually most noticeable in areas with a high moisture content, such as kitchens and bathrooms, however, it is not unusual to see condensation in the mornings on the inside of any window panes when it’s cold outside.

How does condensation cause damp problems?
A little bit of condensation on your bathroom mirror is to be expected, however, over time condensation can lead to the development of a damp problem and mould growth. Even if condensation isn’t visible as droplets on your walls or ceiling, an indoor humidity level of over 55% creates the perfect conditions for mould to grow.

Did you know you can have underfloor ventilation problems too?
It’s not only upper levels of a building that can be affected by poor ventilation –underfloor cavities can be too. Blocked air bricks and damaged air pumps can lead to trapped hot, damp air becoming trapped underneath your floorboards, which, if left untreated, can lead to the development of wet rot and even more serious dry rot.
